Inspiration Friday: Fantastic Window Treatments

Get ready to oooh and ahhhh dear readers, because in this weeks Inspiration Friday post we’re bringing you some of the most beautiful window treatments we’ve seen in years. By the way, if you’d like to contact any of the interior designers who created these fantastic window treatments just click the image to go directly to their site.

So just sit back and pour yourself another Latte and enjoy the view!

What makes this silk window treatment so special is the designers use of a silky high-end tassel fringe trim.  By using high quality products and a classic pattern the designer created something that was truly spectacular.

Imagine having this in your home……….hmmm.  Ok now wake up!

What makes this so spectacular is the designers use of a upholstery weight cord trim to link the tassels there-by creating a decadent effect. This designer chooses a brush fringe to help further accent the beautiful scalloped edges.  It transforms the window and the view outside creating a dramatic but elegant effect.

This designers bold use of color is to be admired. The beautiful rayon blend tassel fringe is in a complementary color which was pulled from the floral pattern in the draperies fabric. By using a tassel fringe fabric trim that was heavy weight but still had a silky feel they were able to create a one of a kind masterpiece.

I love this designers use of bold colors and heavy bullion fringe. By selecting multiple colors of a gorgeous silk fabric and pairing it with a lovely rayon bullion fringe this designer has added to the overall design and color scheme.

Here’s another example of how pairing upholstery fabrics with the right high-end sewing trim can turn a relatively simple design into a masterpiece.  The designer used a heavier weight upholstery fabric with a 3″ Bullion.

Yup, I’ve saved the best for last. This beautiful window treatment absolutely takes my breath away.

Inspiration Friday: Great Uses For Fabric Fringe

Sometimes everyone needs a little inspiration, Am I right? Well yesterday I was in my sewing room checking out my personal stash of fabric trims (and as you can image- I do have quite the stash).  I stumbled across this gorgeous piece of tassel fringe that I’d purchased  years ago, on a whim at a close-out sale and still haven’t used.

At the time they only had a small amount of yardage so I figured I’d just save it until I found a potential project which would give me the inspiration to use it. Well I’ve been waiting  for that inspiration for over 2 years (ugggh).

So after I properly chastised myself for letting this great bit of fabric trim sit unused in by sewing room for so long, I began searching for the perfect sewing project which would showcase this trims beauty.

Are you like me? Do you have beautiful bits of fabric or trims sitting in your closet gathering dust?  Well take a look below for a really amazing way you can put it to use.

Make your own curtains or drapes

Heavier weight Tassel fringes are perfect for applying to upholstery fabrics for custom draperies and Swags.  To achieve this look, simply machine sew your tassel fringe 1″ from the edge of your finished project making sure to keep the sewing stitch very straight.

When selecting a fringe  for a home dec project be sure to choose a color that complements your fabric but still has enough contrast add a splash of drama to the finished project. In the image to the left note how the gold in the tassel picks up the gold in the fabric. One might think that there is too little contrast here, but by using a large heavy weight tassel fringe the designer was able to create a classic look.  And of course the overall effect is spectacular. We carry a similar Blue Tassel fringe in our store. Take a look.

Hint: You don’t have to be a master seamstress to get this custom look. You can also achieve this same feel by using ready made curtains. Yes this is cheating a bit, but I promise only you and I will know.

Found on the Web: Stylish & fun boys clothes sewing tutorials

In addition to being a wife and the owner of Murray the Monster I am also a new mom to a 20 month old little boy. For months I’ve been searching in my local sewing store for cute, stylish patterns I could sew for my little guy. And while you can find tons of patterns and tutorials for little girls, the selection for boys is depressingly sparse.

Luckily there are allot of creative Moms out there, just check out what I found on the Web!

This is an absolutely timeless hat that reminds me of a by gone era. Imagine how dapper your little man would look in this creation during the holidays. The designer of the pattern states that it is appropriate for a 4-6 year old, but I plan on trying to resize it for my son.  And to be completely economical, I’ll be re purposing an old pair of wool pants as the fabric. Another great idea, why not  make toddler pants out of old tee shirts. I’m always looking for really comfy clothes for my son to play in so this is a great project! To view this tutorial just click HERE.

Still not feeling inspired? Well why not try making a pair of shorts for your little guy.

Found on the Web: How to Sew an Easy Table Runner

I’m always looking for new ways to use up my fabric stash. So I was pretty psyched last week when I found these easy directions on how to Sew a Table Runner. Now in theory something as simple has a table runner should not be all that difficult to make, but it’s always nice to have step-by-step directions.  I’m planning on using this runner for my dinning room table, so I’ll be using some high-end fabrics and trims.

Based on the directions, I don’t think it will take more that an hour to make! Enjoy
